WEG was particulary emotional for french eventing rider Rodolphe Scherer.

His father died on the night of the first day of competition; he was supposed to go see his son competing at his firsts World Equestrian Games.

The day after, Rodolphe scored 63.3 with his selle français mare Makara de Montiège, then went on to achieve a superb perfomance on the cross, as they only got 20.4 time penalties.

Very emotional after his course, he wasn’t able to hold his tears during his interview.

He finished with a clear round on the 1.30m jumping course, a first for his mare on this height. They ended up 20th of the final classification. Rodolphe declared it was “the best day of his career”.

"I was 15 years old, laying on my bedroom floor, shaking and trying to shove my heart back into my chest after you told me you didn’t love me anymore and I’m covered in scars and there are still nights when I find myself trying to hold my bones together with bleeding hands and breathing gets hard but fuck, if I can survive you and the way you tore me apart I can survive anything."
